Acceptance to the Storrs campus gets harder every year. You will need a good GPA and SAT scores around 1200. Both are important. Taking honors and AP classes is a help as they want to see you can handle the workload at UConn. I attended a private high school that was tough, but UConn is much harder. Acitvities, clubs, sports and volunteering are also important. Within UConn some colleges are hard to get into, like the School of Business, Nursing, Pharmacy and Education. So you need to get accepted to Storrs and your school of choice. Some allow you apply after your sophomore year, but the competition is tough.

UConn (Storrs campus) continues to get harder to get in every year. The average SAT scores for my class was 1212, and probably higher this year. Getting into UConn is only the first step, you then have to be accepted to your college of choice. Some colleges are very hard to get into, like the School of Business, Pharmacy, Education, Engineering and Nursuring. You can reapply to them after your Sophomore year, but it is very competitve. So if you have major you absolutely want and do not get accepted as a freshman, you may want to consider attending a different school.

As for getting accepted to UConn, I took the hardest courses I could, but understood my capabiliies. I kept a consistantly high GPA - 3.9. I did a lot of activities, sports, clubs (president & vice-president), community service every year, yearbook editor, etc. UConn will look at the whole student, but you need to show strong efforts in all areas.

I had really good grades, SAT scores. I was involved in a lot of sports and some after school activities. You don't have to have an extraordinary resume but it is getting more and more competitive to get in. Try to project your uniqueness into your application.
